Heavy Showers Likely in Himachal, IMD Warns of Localised Downpours

Shimla, Aug 18:

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more wet spells across Himachal Pradesh in the coming days, warning of localised heavy rainfall in lower and mid hills.

The monsoon trough coupled with a Bay of Bengal low-pressure system and a western disturbance is driving the wet weather.

District-wise weather snapshot (Aug 18):

Shimla: Pleasantly cool with max 20.2°C and min 18°C; 10 mm rain. Kufri (13.4 mm) and Jubberhatti (2.4 mm) saw light showers.

Kangra: Dharamshala soaked in 24.7 mm, Palampur drenched with 58.2 mm, and Kangra got 2.7 mm. Dehra Gopipur remained dry.

Mandi: Mandi (2.2 mm), Sundernagar (6.3 mm), and Bajaura (7 mm) received light showers; Bhuntar recorded 22 mm.

Una: Una stayed dry at 30.8°C, but Dhaulakuan was lashed by 113 mm heavy rain.

Solan & Sirmaur: Solan recorded 5 mm, Nahan 30.1 mm, and Paonta Sahib 40.6 mm.

Kullu: Manali picked up 23 mm, Seobagh 4.8 mm, Sarahan 28.5 mm.

Kinnaur & Lahaul-Spiti: Kalpa logged trace rainfall, Reckong Peo 0.5 mm, Keylong stayed dry, while Tabo was the hottest in the state at 32.7°C.

Chamba: Chamba received 8 mm, Dalhousie stayed cool at 19.2°C.

Bilaspur & Hamirpur: Bilaspur 2.8 mm, Hamirpur data not available.

IMD said minimum temperatures saw no large change, but maximum temperatures fell appreciably across the state.

With the trough active, the Met office has warned of continued wet weather with chances of heavy rain at isolated spots.
