Heavy Rains Force School Closure in Shimla & Kullu, Fake Notification Sparks Confusion, DC Directs Police to Lodge FIR.
SHIMLA: With heavy rains triggering landslides, power cuts and water supply disruptions, Deputy Commissioners of Shimla and Kullu have ordered the closure of all educational institutions — including schools, colleges, ITIs, polytechnics, coaching centres, Anganwadis and nursing institutes — on September 3 as a precautionary measure.
Classes, however, will continue in online mode, the order clarified.
DC Shimla Anupam Kashyap, who issued the directive under the Disaster Management Act, said the step was necessary in view of Geological Survey of India’s alert about the high probability of landslides at several vulnerable locations.
Meanwhile, panic spread across Shimla after a fake notification regarding extended school holidays went viral on social media. Speaking to HimbuMail, DC Anupam Kashyap dismissed it outright and shared the original notification.
“The notification about holidays in Shimla district that is going viral is fake. An FIR will be registered in this matter".
People are requested not to share the fake notification,” he said, warning that strict action will follow against those spreading misinformation.
The district administration has urged citizens to rely only on official updates and avoid forwarding unverified messages on social media.
