But  when such reformist youth will  show the same treatment to local peddlers as well?

KULLU: The terror of Chitta is spreading like wildfire in Himachal. But in Shamshi, local youth showed spine.

Six young peddlers – all from outside Kullu – were caught red-handed. The boys of Shamshi tied them up, recovered the deadly powder, and handed them over to the police.

These were not first-timers. Some were habitual offenders. Their job – to target school kids, college students, tourists, and the rich youth of the valley. Their hunting grounds – schools, dhabhas, food courts, tourist spots.

Kullu, Manikaran, Bhuntar, Banjar, Sainj – all have seen this menace. Shimla city, Rohru, Chopal, Kotkhai, Rampur, Nerwa, Maroag, Jubbal, Theog – no place is safe.

Mandi, Solan, Hamirpur, Dharamshala – the story repeats. Last year in Hamirpur, even an NIT lab employee was caught supplying Chitta to students.

People of Shamshi had had enough. The locals not only nabbed the peddlers but gave them a tough lesson before handing them to cops.

But it does not mean that there are no local peddlers, there are many involved in the contraband trade. Will local youth,   nab them or atleast expose them and bring them under police net?  Otherwise, it will go down as an initiative just to Nab outsiders and make the illicit trade as an exclusive  domain  of " local peddlers", warn the watchers.

This bold act has sparked hope. If Shamshi can do it, so can the rest of Himachal.

Now, all eyes on the police. Will they go after the big fish behind these petty peddlers? Or will the drug mafia continue to ruin young lives in the hills?

The youth of Shamshi have blazed the trail. The rest of Himachal must follow.
