Stampede in Haridwar Claims 6 Lives, Dozens Injured — Panic Triggered by Electric Shock Rumour

Haridwar, Uttarakhand:

A tragic stampede broke out near a temple in Haridwar on Saturday, claiming the lives of six people and injuring dozens more.

According to SSP Pramendra Singh Dobal, the chaos erupted following a rumour that some people had received electric shocks on the stairs, around 100 metres below the temple route.

“Initially, we received information about a few people getting injured. The police acted immediately, and around 35 people were rushed to the hospital.

Sadly, six people have died, and others are undergoing treatment,” SSP Dobal confirmed.

Preliminary investigation suggests that panic spread rapidly due to the electric shock rumour, leading to a stampede on the crowded stairway.

Authorities are continuing their probe into the exact cause of the tragedy.
