SHIMLA/NEW DELHI: In a comprehensive analysis conducted by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and National Election Watch (NEW), self-sworn affidavits of 514 Sitting MPs out of 543 in the Lok Sabha 2019 Elections were scrutinized.

 The analysis revealed significant insights into the criminal background, financial status, education, gender, and other details of the sitting MPs.

Criminal Background:

- 44% of Sitting MPs, totaling 225, have declared criminal cases against themselves.

- Among them, 29% or 149 MPs have serious criminal cases, including murder, attempt to murder, and crimes against women.

- Notably, 9 Sitting MPs have cases related to murder, while 28 have cases related to attempt to murder.

- 16 Sitting MPs have cases related to crimes against women, including 3 MPs with cases related to rape.

 

Financial Background:

- 5% of the analyzed MPs, amounting to 25 individuals, are billionaires.

- The average assets per sitting MP for the Lok Sabha 2019 elections stand at Rs. 20.71 crores.

- 25 Sitting MPs have declared assets worth more than Rs. 100 crores.

- The top three MPs with the highest assets include Nakul Nath from Madhya Pradesh, D.K. Suresh from Karnataka, and Kanumuru Raghu Rama Krishna Raju from Andhra Pradesh.

Other Background Details:

- 73% of Sitting MPs hold a graduate or higher educational qualification, while 24% have qualifications between 5th and 12th pass.

- Age-wise distribution indicates that 63% of Sitting MPs are between 51 to 85 years old, while 37% are aged between 25 to 50 years.

- In terms of gender, 15% of Sitting MPs are women.

The analysis sheds light on the multifaceted profiles of Sitting MPs in the Lok Sabha, encompassing their criminal records, financial standings, educational backgrounds, and demographic representation. These findings provide valuable insights into the composition and diversity of the parliamentary.
