BJP Defections Deal Blow to Kangana Ranaut's Mandi Lok Sabha Campaign
MANDI/KULLU: In a political shift, several members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have crossed over to the Congress party, dealing a substantial blow to Kangana Ranaut's campaign in the Mandi Lok Sabha seat.
The defections, centered around the Karsog assembly constituency in Mandi, have seen notable figures such as former IPS Jagat Ram and scheduled caste Morcha Vice President Yuvraj Kapoor join the Congress ranks. Yuvraj Kapoor, who was once a contender for the BJP ticket in the previous assembly elections, made the move along with dozens of supporters, citing faith in the policies of the Congress government and Chief Minister Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu.
In a coordinated effort, former BJP State Working Committee member Anup Thakur, former BJP General Secretary Deep Raj, and numerous others followed suit, expressing disillusionment with the BJP's direction.
The wave of defections, including those of Kishori Lal and other prominent figures, marks a significant setback for the BJP's efforts to consolidate support in the Mandi Lok Sabha constituency.
Chief Minister Sukhu welcomed the newcomers, assuring them of respect and recognition within the Congress ranks. Yuvraj Kapoor affirmed his commitment to the Congress party, praising the Chief Minister's initiatives for the state's welfare and highlighting his journey from humble beginnings to leadership.
The defections underscore a shifting political landscape in Mandi, with the Congress seizing momentum ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
As Kangana Ranaut's campaign in the Mandi constituency faces unexpected challenges, the BJP confronts a formidable test in maintaining its stronghold in the region.
