Shimla: BJP spokesperson and three-time MLA from Chopal, Balbir Verma, has been elevated as the Vice President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Himachal Pradesh.
Known for his grassroots connect and compassion for the poor, "Bittu Verma" has carved a niche in Chopal politics, winning three consecutive terms—something unprecedented in the region.
Verma, who had made his political debut in 2013 by contesting as an independent candidate, credited the party leadership for reposing faith in him.
“For giving me this new responsibility as BJP state vice president, I express my heartfelt gratitude to our successful and popular Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, BJP National President Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the BJP State President Dr Rajeev Bindal, and entire central and state leadership,” Verma said.
During his speech in the Vidhan Sabha recently, Verma had hit out at the Congress, saying he was facing three cabinet ministers in the Shimla Lok Sabha constituency who had “turned a blind eye to the development of Chopal.”
He alleged that the Public Works Department had failed to provide budgetary support for roads, leaving connectivity in the area badly hampered.
Reaffirming his commitment, Verma said he would work with “full sincerity, determination and transparency” to strengthen the party organization.
“Nation First, Party Second and Self Last—that has been my principle and I will continue to uphold it in this new role,” he remarked.
Extending congratulations to other leaders who were elected alongside him, Verma said their “organizational experience will help BJP scale new heights in the state.”
