Dehra-Hamirpur Nalagarh By-Election Heats Up as poll date of July 10 draws nearer.
Shimla/Dehra/Hamirpur, July 3, 2024: The Dehra, Hamirpur and Nalagarh by-elections have turned into a high-stakes battle, especially in Dehra, where Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s prestige is on the line with his wife, Kamlesh Thakur, running as the Congress candidate.
At recent rallies, CM Sukhu lambasted BJP’s Dehra candidate, Hoshiyar Singh, and Hamirpur candidate, Ashish Sharma, calling them "betrayers of public trust."
He stated, "Hoshiyar Singh in Dehra and Ashish Sharma in Hamirpur are nothing more than puppets of a party that has consistently failed to deliver on its promises.
Their desperate tactics and baseless accusations can't hide the fact that they have no real vision or plans for development.
The people of Dehra and Hamirpur deserve leaders who will work for their progress, not just play political games. They, along with the BJP, are responsible for these by-elections on three seats."
Following Sukhu’s statements, BJP’s Dehra candidate, Hoshiyar Singh, responded sharply, accusing the CM of neglecting Dehra’s development over the past 15 months.
Singh said, “Had Sukhu focused on real development earlier, there would be no need for this by-election or worry over his wife’s victory. People win elections through trust and work, not intimidation.”
Dr. Rajiv Bindal, BJP’s state president, joined in, campaigning for Singh and slamming the Congress government for corruption and poor governance.
He highlighted a recent scandal involving the disappearance of ration worth crores from a Dehra warehouse, accusing the Congress of being “the mother of corruption.”
As rallies intensify, the elections in Dehra and Hamirpur and Nalagarh have become a referendum on governance and credibility.
