SRINAGAR/SHIMLA: Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi competed his 3650 KM long Bharata Jodo Yatra on January 29 by unfurling National flag Tiranga at Lal Chowk in Srinagar in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
The yatra will conclude on January 30 on Martyrs Day when the Opposition Parties leaders are also expected to arrive to put a solidarity against what Rahul Gandhi calls the “BJP’s Vichardhara of hatred and violence”.
After hoisting the National Flag at Lal Chowk, Rahul Gandhi said he has fulfilled (Vada) promise made to Bharat.
The ceremony was solemnized by the volunteers of the National Sevadal of Congress and was attended by Priyanka Gandhi and Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and other Congress leaders and locals by singing the National anthem.
Rahul Gandhi said Bharat Jodo Yatra is the “most beautiful and deepest experience of his life”. “It is not the end, it is the first step, it is a beginning”, he said.
Interestingly, PDF Chief Mehbooba Mufti and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah also joined the Bharat Jodo Yatra on the way to Srinagar.
But they were not seen at Lal Chowk participating in the flag hoisting ceremony, revealed the sources.
Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra spanned over 3650 KM covering 14 states from Kanyakumari in Kerala to Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Nafrat Haregi(hatred will be defeated), Mohabbat Hamesha Jeetegi(Love will always triumph), Bharat Mein Ummidon Ka Naya Savera Hoga( In Bharat, there will be new morning of hopes”, Rahul Gandhi said on social media.
Mehbooba Mufti in her comments on Bharata Jodo Yatra praised Rahul Gandhi commenting, “Rahul Gandhi’s yatra comes like a breath of fresh air in Kashmir. It is the first time since 2019 that Kashmiris have come out of their homes in such massive numbers”.
In solidarity with Rahul Gandhi Umar Abdullah was also seen walking with him in a white shirt, the trade mark dress of Rahul Gandhi.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu also joined Rahul Gandhi in Srinagar in solidarity with the Congress and People of Kashmir to spread a message across Kashmir.
Rahul Gandhi before his arrival paid his tributes to the 40 Pulwama Martyrs.
"Even as the scenery present a chilly atmosphere, but in the snowclad peaks you can find warmth, love and goodwill and hope for a better future", Gandhi said.
