₹1,500 Guarantee for All Women Now Shrunk to Select Beneficiaries: Daisy Thakur
Shimla: BJP Mahila Morcha state president Daisy Thakur has accused the Congress government of diluting its 2022 election guarantee of ₹1,500 per month for all women aged 18 to 60, questioning why the benefit is now being restricted to a limited number of beneficiaries.
Thakur said the Congress had sought votes on a clear promise that every woman in the 18-60 age group would receive ₹1,500 a month after the party formed the government.
“Nearly four years have passed, but the original promise has still not been implemented for all eligible women,” she said.
Citing the state government’s Economic Survey 2025-26, Thakur said only 35,687 women were receiving ₹1,500 per month under the Pyari Behna Sukh Samman Nidhi at that stage.
She said the government was now talking about expanding the scheme to around 2.5 lakh women, while reports suggested that nearly 2.41 lakh applications had been received by the eighth phase.
“When the election guarantee was for all women between 18 and 60 years, why have the eligibility conditions and the number of beneficiaries changed after the Congress came to power?” Thakur asked.
She also questioned reports that beneficiary lists were being prepared or sent from the Chief Minister’s Office.
“If there is no truth in these reports, the government should immediately clarify the position and make the entire selection process public,” she said.
Thakur demanded disclosure of the criteria being used to select beneficiaries, the number of applications rejected and the reasons for rejection.
“₹1,500 cannot become a privilege for political workers or supporters. It was a promise made to the women of Himachal Pradesh,” she said.
She also questioned the eligibility conditions reportedly approved by the government in May 2026, including an annual family income limit of ₹2 lakh.
“If such conditions were part of the scheme, why were they not made clear to the people when the guarantee was announced before the elections?” she asked.
The BJP leader demanded that the government publish the original election guarantee, present eligibility rules, number of applications received and approved, rejected applications and the total amount disbursed under the scheme.
“The women of Himachal Pradesh deserve a clear answer. If the 2022 guarantee was made for all women, why is its implementation being restricted today?” Thakur said.
“A promise made during an election cannot simply be reduced to an election slogan after the government comes to power.”
