Shimla, September 1: Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday said the Himachal Pradesh government would examine reports regarding swine flu cases and deaths after the issue was raised by the Leader of Opposition.
Responding to questions over the reported deaths, Sukhu said there had been discussions about swine flu and that at least one patient had been referred from PGI, for which the government had received a report.
“There have been discussions about swine flu during the tenure, but I believe one patient was referred from PGI, and we have the report,” Sukhu said.
He acknowledged reports of two deaths and said the government would look into the matter following the issue being raised in the Assembly.
“Now that the Leader of Opposition has raised the issue, we will follow the directions as we always do and look into whatever happens,” the Chief Minister said.
Sukhu sought to allay concerns over the state’s preparedness, saying doctors in Himachal were confident of handling swine flu cases and had been working on the disease.
“Our doctors are very confident in treating swine flu and have been working on it since then,” he said.
The Chief Minister’s statement comes amid concerns over reported swine flu cases and deaths, with the government now expected to examine the available medical reports and establish the exact status of cases and fatalities in the state.
