Shimla, October 5:
As the unveiling of six-time Chief Minister late Virbhadra Singh’s statue approaches, the state government and the Raja Virbhadra Singh Foundation are leaving no stone unturned to make the October 13 ceremony at Shimla’s historic Ridge a grand and memorable event.
Public Works and Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh, who chaired a review meeting of the foundation today, said the government wants the occasion to stand as a “historic tribute” to the towering leader.
“Since the event is being hosted by the Congress government with full support from the foundation, every effort will be made to ensure that guests face no inconvenience,” he said.
He added that top Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Rajeev Shukla, Rajni Patil, along with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri, and PCC Chief Pratibha Singh, will attend the ceremony.
“It will be a moment of pride for all those who admired and worked with Virbhadra Singh across political lines,” Vikramaditya said, adding that even opposition leaders and senior citizens who had associated with the late leader will be specially invited.
The meeting finalized all arrangements for the 11 a.m. ceremony, with instructions for gathering attendees from 9 a.m. onwards. Shimla MLA and foundation vice-president Harish Janartha urged members to ensure proper seating and comfort for dignitaries, emphasizing teamwork and dedication.
He said, “This event honors a leader who was known not just for his politics, but for his affection and inclusive spirit. His statue at the Ridge will forever remind us to move forward together for Himachal’s progress.”
