KULLU: A holiday trip turned tragic on Thursday morning as three tourists, including a five-year-old girl, were killed and three others injured in a fatal road accident on the Kullu–Manali National Highway.

According to the police, the driver of a car lost control of the vehicle, which rammed into an electric pole and smashed against the roadside parapet before coming to a halt in a mangled condition.

Three occupants died on the spot, while three others travelling in the same car sustained serious injuries.

All the injured were rushed to the Kullu Regional Hospital, where their condition is stated to be stable but serious, police said.

The deceased have been identified as Sahil, Sakshi and a five-year-old girl. The group was travelling from Chandigarh to Manali to attend the Winter Carnival and spend their holidays.

Preliminary investigations suggest overspeeding or loss of control as the possible cause of the accident. The impact of the crash was so severe that the vehicle was badly damaged.

Police have registered a case and further investigations are underway.
