Vigilance Week Returns — Same Pledges, Same Promises out Himachal
Shimla, October 29
Another Vigilance Awareness Week, another round of speeches and pledges. “Vigilance – Our Shared Responsibility” is the slogan this year too, but the message has started to sound more ritual than reform.
At the Police Headquarters, Shimla, Ex-officio Vigilance Officers (EVOs) from 26 departments met under DGP Ashok Tewari to “strengthen coordination” and “promote transparency.”
The DGP detailed procedures — from complaint to charge sheet — and reminded officers to act fairly and swiftly.
He admitted delays in prosecution sanctions continue to cripple vigilance work, urging departments to respond on time. But such appeals are made every year — and ignored just as routinely.
For citizens, the weeklong drive feels like a replay of old promises: integrity pledges, outreach programs, and lofty talk on transparency — while corruption cases crawl through red tape.
Until vigilance moves from ritual to real action, “awareness” will remain the easiest thing to celebrate.
