Himachal Advocates Close Ranks as High Court Bar Joins Protests
Shimla: After initially keeping its distance, the Himachal Pradesh High Court Bar Association finally joined hands with district bar associations today, abstaining from court proceedings in protest against the proposed Advocates (Amendment) Bill.
In a general house meeting, the High Court Bar decided to support the ongoing agitation, aligning with district court lawyers who have been boycotting proceedings in places like Una, Mandi, and Kullu.
The elected members of the Himachal Pradesh Bar Council faced sharp criticism for their inaction on the issue, exposing internal discontent within the legal fraternity.
With this shift, the protests have gained momentum across the state, marking a united front against the contentious bill, which seeks to curb advocates' right to strike.
The ongoing strikes have adversely affected litigants, causing delays and financial burdens.
The Bar Council of India has appealed to lawyers to refrain from strikes, citing assurances from the Law Minister to address their concerns.Shimla: Bar Council of Himachal Appeals to End Lawyers' Strike, Calls Advocate Amendment Bill Unacceptable.
