Assam Rifles nabbed the two terrorists of PLA and KCP from Imphal east and Bishnupur district in joint operations with Manipur police soon after the LED blasts targeted the convoy in which an officer, his son and wife including its four other brave soldiers were killed.
Spokesperson of the Assam Rifles tweeted that the two terrorists belong to the PLA and KCP were nabbed by its battalion from Imphal east and Bishnupur in Manipur on Tuesday in a joint operation.
All the five soldiers killed in the attack belonged to Manipur, who were given a warm send off in military honours by the Assam Rifles for the last three days. They included Col Viplav Tripathy , Khatnal Konyak, RP Meena, Shyamlal Das and Suman Sawargiary .
In a gesture, the father of Khatnal Konyak while paying his tributes to the departed son, he said his two sons are in the Indian army, one has come here and other is still serving the nation, a message that went viral of social media.
In a similar gesture, Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma, who visited the family of Suman Sawargiary on Tuesday said “I vowed to take care of of martyr’s son of Swargiary who laid down his life in the service of nation”. His tweets went viral on social media saying that his example should be followed by other CM as well.
According to the Defence Ministry, the Assam Rifles convoy was ambushed in IED blasts in Churachandpur on November 12.
President of India, Prime Minister, Home Minister and Defence Minister condemned the attack as the dastardly act of cowardice and expressed their solidarity with the bereaved families of the brave soldiers who laid their life for defending the nation.
There followed emotional scenes in Manipur and Assam when the bodies of valiant soldiers were brought for last rite at their places for the last three days.
The recent attack came as a chilling reminder of the similar attack on Assam Rifles on June 4, 2018 in which 18 soldiers were killed while on a road opening patrol of the 6 Dogra regiment in Chandel in Manipur. LT Gen PC Nair, DG Assam Rifles condoled the death of the soldiers.
Assam Rifles guard the 243 km long Indian border in Northeast with Myanmar and have been doing yeoman service to nation and people of northeastern states by collaborating with local communities in welfare programmes.
