Shimla, March 12, 2025: Artificial Intelligence (AI),

cloud computing, interactive panels, SPSS software, and a proposed multimedia studio will play a transformative role in shaping quality research and skill development at Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), academicians emphasized during a Skill Development Workshop on Research Methodology.

The event, organized jointly by the Department of Public Administration and the Department of Computer Science, took place in the computer lab of the Computer Science Department.

Scholars and faculty members from multiple disciplines, including Political Science, Chemistry, and Biosciences, participated in the session.

Digital Tools Driving Research

Inaugurating the workshop, Professor Rajkumar Siwach from Chaudhary Devi Lal University, Sirsa, highlighted the pivotal role of digital tools in revolutionizing the research process.

He gave a practical demonstration of open-source research platforms, cloud computing services, and websites that have made research more efficient, accessible, and organized.

Professor Mamta Mokta, Dean Students' Welfare, welcomed the participants, stressing that technology is indispensable for research in the 21st century.

She advocated for regular workshops to enhance researchers' knowledge and efficiency.

Professor Anita Ganpati, Chairperson, Department of Computer Science, echoed this sentiment, stating that interdisciplinary collaboration fosters high-quality research and helps in optimal resource sharing.

AI and Ethical Research: A Balancing Act

Artificial Intelligence’s impact on research came under discussion in a thought-provoking session led by Professor Manu Sood, Dean, Faculty of Physical Science.

He emphasized that while AI tools enhance data analysis, automation, and efficiency, ethical concerns must be addressed.

He called for strict adherence to legal and professional compliance standards, ensuring research integrity and credibility.

Advanced Digital Tools in Research

The workshop featured live demonstrations of essential research tools:

Prof. Aman Kumar Sharma from the Department of Computer Science showcased Mendeley, an AI-driven reference management tool that automates citations and bibliography generation, streamlining research organization.

Dr. Puneet Bhushan from the HPU Business School demonstrated SPSS software, explaining how it aids in data management, predictive analytics, and visualization, making statistical analysis more accessible for researchers.

HPU’s Vision: Multimedia Studios & AI Integration

In the valedictory function, Professor J.S. Dhiman, Dean, Planning & Teaching Matters, made a major announcement: Under the MERU (Multidisciplinary Education and Research University) initiative, HPU will establish multimedia studios, purchase interactive panels, acquire SPSS software, and expand its computing resources to boost research quality.

Professor B.K. Shivram, Dean of Studies and Chief Guest, urged researchers to publish high-quality papers in reputed journals, ensuring that their work contributes meaningfully to society’s progress.

Collaborative Future for Research Excellence

The workshop concluded with Professor Mamta Mokta extending gratitude to faculty members, researchers, and the non-teaching staff of both departments for their contribution to the event’s success.

With AI, cloud computing, and advanced digital tools reshaping research methodologies, HPU is poised to become a hub for data-driven, technology-backed, and ethical research, ensuring that its scholars remain at the forefront of academic innovation.
