Rohru, Shimla: Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced renaming Seema College, Rohru, after former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh during its annual function.
He also declared the launch of a B.Ed. course from the next academic session and pledged financial aid for a hostel and a multipurpose building for the college.
The CM inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for multiple projects totaling ₹100.95 crore for the Rohru assembly constituency.
Highlights include:
- A ₹29.22 crore ultra-modern Cold Atmosphere (CA) Store, increasing storage capacity from 700 MT to 2031 MT.
- Grading machinery worth ₹20.93 crore, capable of processing 5 MT per hour.
- A ₹2.79 crore Ayurvedic hospital and two drinking water schemes costing ₹8.95 crore.
- Road projects worth ₹51.74 crore and a ₹8.25 crore hostel for Seema College.
Addressing the event, CM Sukhu criticized the previous BJP government for opening 900 institutions without budgetary provisions, leading to a decline in educational standards.
He assured steps to improve education, including vocational courses to boost employment.
Education Minister Rohit Thakur highlighted the government's focus on the education sector, with 15,000 posts filled and new roads developed to benefit apple growers.
MLA Mohan Lal Brakta welcomed the CM, while students presented a cultural program, earning a ₹1 lakh reward from the CM. DC Anupam Kashyap, MD HPMC Sudesh Mokhta, and Panchayati Raj representatives were also present.
