NMC Chairperson with URDA PRESIDENT

National Medical Commission Gets New Leadership under JP Nadda.. Can medical fraternity and suffering Public Get Relief?

NEW DELHI/SHIMLA: The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has given the National Medical Commission (NMC) a fresh start by appointing Dr. B.N. Gangadhar as its new Chairperson.

This change, under the guidance of Jagat Prakash Nadda, aims to revamp the NMC.  It's Nadda’s second Stint as Union Health Minister.

He had also been a health minister in the then PK Dhumal government in Himachal but had left it chose to serve the party.

The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet has assigned several key positions at the NMC and its autonomous boards.

These appointments are for four years, or until the age of 70, whichever comes first.

Here are the new appointments:

- Dr. B.N. Gangadhar: Chairperson of the National Medical Commission.

- Dr. Sanjay Behari: President of the Medical Assessment and Rating Board.

- Dr. Anil D’Cruz: Whole-time member of the Post-Graduate Medical Education Board.

- Dr. Rajendra Achyut Badwe: Part-time member of the Under-Graduate Medical Education Board for two years.

United front of Resident Doctors Association  of India  has welcomed the new Chairperson hoping he will ring in desired positive change and synergies in the commission, said its president  Dr Lakshay Mittal.

With this new team, the big question is whether the NMC will crack down on private medical colleges.

These colleges often charge too much for MBBS degrees and are criticized for having poor records and more seats than they can handle with their facilities. This is just because of corruption.

On the other  even the state run Medical Colleges face shortage of faculty as the faculty are dispatched from the older colleges to new one when NMC takes inspection to avoid derecognition.

Even the track record of the National Health Mission in Himachal is not lily white in its purity as most of the action is concentrated in the state headquarters, dishing out statistics to keep its coffers ready for the  central funds from the Ministry.

Rural health care remains poor and require strict medical audits.

Will Nadda set the things right so that students get justice and patients get competent doctors in rural Himachal?
