Shimla: SJVN's Chairman & Managing Director, Sh. Nand Lal Sharma, has officially declared the commencement of commercial operations for the first unit of the 60 MW Naitwar Mori Hydro Electric Project (NMHEP) in Uttarakhand.
The 30 MW capacity unit successfully achieved the Commercial Operation Date (COD) today after undergoing rigorous testing and synchronization with the national grid, he added.
This achievement propels SJVN's total generation capacity to 2122 MW, up from 2091.50 MW. Sh. Nand Lal Sharma commended the dedicated efforts of project officials and all those involved in making this milestone possible.
The 60 MW NMHEP is the fifth hydro project by any Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) and the nineteenth project to become operational in the state of Uttarakhand.
The hydro project, situated on the River Tons in Uttarkashi district, consists of two generating units of 30 MW each.
Despite facing challenges posed by the global pandemic COVID-19, the project was completed within six years from the award of civil works in 2017. The second unit of the project is expected to be commissioned later this month.
Sh. Nand Lal Sharma highlighted the positive impact of the project on the local and regional communities, bringing prosperity and improved quality of life. The NMHEP has generated multiple employment and business opportunities for the residents.
The project is set to generate 265.5 million units of electricity annually, with power being evacuated through a 37 km long 220 KV Transmission Line constructed by SJVN from Bainol to Snail.
The Hon'ble Union Power Minister, Sh. RK Singh, and the then Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Sh. Trivender Singh Rawat, had laid the foundation stone of the project in 2018.
Upon commissioning, 12% of the electricity generated will be supplied to the state of Uttarakhand as royalty.
Additionally, each Project Associated Family will receive an amount equivalent to the cost of 100 units of electricity per month for ten years.
SJVN, a diversified transnational CPSE with interests in Hydro, Solar, Wind, and Thermal Power Generation, Power Transmission, and Power Trading, aims to achieve its Mission of 12000 MW installed capacity by 2026 and a Shared Vision of 50,000 MW by 2040.
