Shimla/ Guwahati | January 15, 2026
With the commissioning of the 70 MW Dhubri Solar Power Project, SJVN has added yet another green feather to its energy portfolio, marking a major milestone as Assam’s first large-scale solar power plant and the company’s maiden operational project in the North Eastern Region.
The project was inaugurated on Thursday by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in the presence of Power Minister Prasanta Phukan, SJVN Chairman and Managing Director Bhupender Gupta, ACS (Energy) and APDCL Chairman Krishna Kumar Dwivedi, APDCL Managing Director Rakesh Kumar, SJVN Director (Personnel) Ajay Kumar Sharma and other senior officials.
Speaking on the occasion, CMD Bhupender Gupta expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his visionary leadership and thanked Union Power Minister Manohar Lal, Union Minister for New & Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi and the Assam government for their continued support.
He said the project underlines SJVN’s commitment to expanding renewable energy capacity and achieving national goals of energy security and sustainability.
Ajay Kumar Sharma said the project would generate direct and indirect employment for local communities during both construction and operation phases and would significantly strengthen Assam’s renewable energy portfolio through the supply of clean and green electricity.
The 70 MW project has been developed by SJVN Green Energy Limited on 330 acres of land provided by Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) on a 28-year lease at Village Khudigaon Pt-II in Dhubri district.
It was awarded to SGEL on February 16, 2023 through tariff-based competitive bidding at Rs 3.92 per unit. The EPC cost of the project is Rs 367.44 crore.
The plant is expected to generate 141.13 million units of power in its first year at a Capacity Utilisation Factor of 23 per cent and a cumulative generation of about 3,230 million units over 25 years. It will help cut carbon emissions by nearly 1.58 lakh tonnes.
The foundation stone of the project was virtually laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marking a significant step in Assam’s renewable energy journey.
