SJVN Commissions 70 MW Dhubri Solar Project, Assam Gets First Mega Solar Plant
Shimla, February 5, 2026:
SJVN has started commercial operations of its 70 MW Dhubri Solar Power Project in Assam, marking the state’s first large-scale solar plant and the company’s first operational project in the North East.
SJVN Chairman and Managing Director Bhupender Gupta said the project has been developed through its wholly owned subsidiary, SJVN Green Energy Limited, strengthening the company’s push towards clean energy.
Built at a cost of ₹367.44 crore, the project has come up on 330 acres in Dhubri district and will supply power to the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited at a tariff of ₹3.92 per unit. The plant is expected to generate about 141 million units of electricity in the first year.
The foundation stone of the project was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March 2024. With its commissioning, the project adds momentum to India’s renewable energy goals and is expected to cut carbon emissions by over 1.58 lakh tonnes.
The project has also created direct and indirect jobs, giving a boost to the local economy while expanding Assam’s clean energy footprint.
