SJVN Commissions 90 MW Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project
Shimla, 08.08.2024 - SJVN Limited, a Mini Ratna CPSU under the Ministry of Power, has successfully commissioned its 90 MW Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project in Khandwa district, Madhya Pradesh.
This project, developed at a cost of ₹646.20 crore, marks SJVN's entry into the floating solar power segment and boosts its total installed capacity to 2,466.50 MW.
Located in India's largest floating solar park, this project is one of the biggest in Central and North India.
It’s expected to generate 196.5 million units of electricity in its first year, with a total output of 4,629.3 million units over 25 years.
The project is set to add ₹64 crore to SJVN’s revenue annually and will help reduce carbon emissions by 2.3 lakh tonnes. It will also aid water conservation by minimizing evaporation.
SJVN secured the project through competitive bidding at a tariff of ₹3.26 per unit, with a 25-year power purchase agreement in place.
This development aligns with the Government of India’s goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2070. Currently, SJVN’s project portfolio stands at a massive 56,802.40 MW, spanning hydro, pumped storage, thermal, and renewable energy sectors.
