Rampur: In this tiny hill town of Rampur Bushahr in Shimla district, the air is filled with a vibrant blend of tradition and commerce as Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla inaugurated the much-celebrated International Lavi Fair here today.

The event, which spans four days, is not just a marketplace but a cultural extravaganza that has woven itself into the fabric of Himachal Pradesh.

Amidst the fluttering flags and the excited chatter of  trade freaks, Lady Governor Janaki Shukla graced the occasion, emphasizing the fair's historical and cultural significance.

Governor Shukla reflected on the fair's evolution from a commercial hotspot to a cultural festival, showcasing the rich tapestry of traditions that Himachal Pradesh proudly boasts.

In a moment, the Governor paid tribute to the late Virbhadra Singh, the former Chief Minister whose relentless efforts elevated Rampur Lavi to the prestigious status of an International fair in 1985.

With reverence, he prayed to Mata Bhimakali for the happiness and prosperity of the state's people.

Applauding the organizers for their dedication to preserving the essence of Lavi Mela, the Governor highlighted the uniqueness of the fair's offerings.

From woolen textiles to exquisite handicrafts and succulent dry fruits, the fair provides a platform for traditional artisans and farmers to showcase and sell their distinctive products.

Underlining the spirit of unity in diversity, the Governor commended the cultural groups from different states that come together at Lavi Fair, creating a living example of the country's varied heritage. He drew attention to the Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat initiative by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where the Foundation Day of each state is celebrated at Raj Bhawan, fostering mutual love and harmony among the people.

Amidst the festivities, the Governor took a stroll through the exhibitions put forth by various state government departments and organizations, expressing keen interest in their contributions.

The International Lavi Fair of 2023 was further unveiled through a captivating video teaser, adding a modern touch to this age-old celebration.

Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the International Lavi Fair Organizing Committee, Aditya Negi, extended a warm welcome to the Governor, providing detailed insights into the myriad activities lined up for the fair.

Against the backdrop of traditional folk dance performances, the fair came alive, connecting the present generation with the historical roots of Himachal's oldest trade fair.

Local MLA Nand Lal, Zila Parishad Chairperson Chandraprabha Negi, and other dignitaries added their presence to this collage of tradition and celebration, making the International Lavi Fair a symbol of Himachal's enduring cultural legacy.
