Shimla: British Deputy High Commission's representative, Caroline Rowett, held discussions with Industries, Ayush, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan during her visit to Shimla here today.
The focus of the meeting was to promote trade and investment between the UK and Himachal Pradesh, particularly in the Handloom industry.
Minister Chauhan expressed the state's interest in collaborating with the UK for a trade delegation to promote Himachal's Handloom products, considering the favorable market conditions due to similar weather.
The delegation, including government representatives and premium brands like Bhuttico, aims to tap into the UK market.
Additionally, the state government committed to expediting land allotment to RR Agro Ltd in Kullu, responding to the high demand for their products in the UK.
This investment is expected to boost the manufacturing sector in Kullu and generate employment opportunities.
Chauhan welcomed foreign investments in the liquor/wine sector, citing the approval of a Scottish company, Ian MacLeod's project with an investment of Rs 50.80 crores and employment potential for 77 persons.
The company has already invested Rs 40 crores in setting up a Malt Distillery Plant in the Industrial Area, Pandoga, District Una.
Highlighting cultural promotion, Minister Chauhan proposed the possibility of hosting an event/fashion show in collaboration with BDHC Chandigarh during the England vs India Test match in Dharamshala in March.
This event would showcase Himachal's handloom products and cultural heritage.
The meeting was deemed fruitful, anticipating increased investment in Himachal, leading to revenue generation and employment for the local population.
The delegation included MLA Vinay Kumar and officers from the UK, including Amandeep Grewal, Rajinder S Nagarkoti, Praneet Verma, and Rakesh Kumar Prajapati.
