Doon University Dehradun plastic bank campaign

Students Pledge to Eliminate Plastic on Independence Day: Prof. Surekha Dangwal

Dehradun:  Doon University, under its *Clean Campus Green Campus* drive, has set up a plastic bank to tackle pollution on campus.

The initiative, backed by the Social Development for Communities (SDC) Foundation, aims to rid the university of single-use plastic.

Addressing the students, Vice Chancellor Prof. Surekha Dangwal emphasized the university's role as a key educational institution in the state, urging students to take responsibility for keeping their environment clean.

"Environmental crisis is a big challenge today. While global efforts are necessary, as responsible citizens and students, it's our duty to ensure our surroundings are pollution-free," she said.

Prof. Dangwal also highlighted the importance of the plastic bank, encouraging everyone to contribute to making the campus free from single-use plastic this Independence Day.

"Let's make Devbhoomi Uttarakhand free from plastic, starting with our own campus," she added.

Anoop Nautiyal, Founder of SDC Foundation, praised the students' participation, saying, "The youth of an aware nation can solve any problem. I'm thrilled to see Doon University students joining this campaign, which will undoubtedly boost our efforts."

He mentioned that the SDC Foundation, in collaboration with Airbus, aims to establish 300 plastic banks across Dehradun, with over 160 already in place in various institutions.

The event also saw support from Prof. R.P. Mamgai, Dean of the Department of Economics, and Prof. S.S. Suthar, Dean of the Department of Environment, who both expressed their gratitude.

The program, conducted by Dean Student Welfare Prof. H.C. Purohit, witnessed active participation from students, NCC cadets, and faculty members.

The SDC Foundation team, including Dinesh Semwal, Pyare Lal, and others, was also present to lend their support.

Students pledged to continue their efforts to eliminate the plastic menace from the campus and spread awareness beyond the university walls.
