SHIMLA: Irked by long delays in implementation of the Nau Tor Land under the Forest Rights Act, the delegation of tribals from Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur today urged State Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar to exempt the scheduled tribal areas from the provision of the Forest Conservation Act, 1980 for granting Nautor Land to the poor tribal families in tribal districts of Himachal Pradesh.
The joint delegation of Panchayat Pradhans of Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur districts and the members of PITI Buddhist Lekhyur Tsogpa, Spiti Civil Society and Public Welfare Society Tabo called on Governor at Raj Bhavan today.
They presented a memorandum to the Governor urging him to initiate legal proceedings for exemption of Scheduled areas of tribal districts from the provisions of the Forest Conservation Act, 1980 for granting Nautor Land to the poor families.
Tribals said the governments have been delaying the allotment of Nau Tore land to the tribals under the Forest Right Act and they are suffering. The Forest Conservation Act has halted the process of granting Nau Tor land to them over the years, they rued.
They also urged the Governor to speed up the transfer of the 11 KM Leo-Chango bypass road from HP Public Works Department to Border Road Organization from security point of view. They said by constructing this bypass road it would solve all difficulties of Malling Nallah and this road will shorten distance by 25 km.
The Governor assured that their demands would be considered sympathetically.
