Heavy Rain Alert in Himachal: IMD Warns of Landslides, Flash Floods in Parts of State

Shimla, August 5:

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy to very heavy rain alert for several districts in Himachal Pradesh today, including Mandi, Kangra, Sirmaur, Una, and Kullu. The rain activity is expected to continue across the state till August 11, with isolated spells of heavy rain each day.

August 5: Very heavy rain likely at isolated places in Mandi, Kangra, Una, and Sirmaur.

 

August 6–11: Heavy rain likely at several places across low and mid-hills.

 

Flash Flood Risk in Kinnaur on August 5

 

Gusty winds (up to 37 km/h) recorded in Shimla.

 

Thunderstorms in Kangra and Murari Devi.

 

 

Potential Impacts:

 

Landslides, mudslides, and sinking in vulnerable areas

 

Waterlogging in low-lying regions

 

Disruption to traffic and essential services

 

Possible crop and orchard damage

 

Risk of flash floods and rising water levels in rivers and streams

 

 

Recent Rainfall Highlights (Last 24 hrs):

 

Bijahi (Mandi): 15 cm

 

Baggi (Mandi): 10 cm

 

Sundernagar (Mandi): 8 cm

Nadaun (Hamirpur): 8 cm

Palampur (Kangra): 6 cm

The lowest temperature was recorded at Keylong (13.5°C) and the highest at Una (33.0°C).

People are advised to:

Avoid travel to landslide-prone and low-lying areas

Stay away from rivers and water bodies

Avoid trekking and outdoor activities

Follow local administration and weather updates regularly

The IMD warns that maximum temperatures may dip by 4–5°C in the next 24 hours before gradually rising again.
