Himachal bans mobile phones in schools for teachers and students
Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh government has imposed a blanket ban on the use of mobile phones in schools, both for teachers and students.
The move aims to create a distraction-free learning environment and curb the growing addiction to smartphones among children.
Under the new rules, teachers will have to deposit their phones in the staff room or another designated safe spot before entering classrooms.
Students, meanwhile, will not be allowed to bring mobile phones from home at all.
Director of School Education, Ashish Kohli, said mobile phones have become one of the biggest disruptions in classrooms, with ringing tones, message alerts, and constant checking of devices hampering both teaching quality and student focus.
The department has also highlighted the health risks linked to excessive mobile use, including stress, anxiety, sleep disturbances, weak eyesight, hearing issues, and even social isolation.
To ensure compliance, schools have been instructed to display notices about the ban and conduct regular checks, with disciplinary action to follow in case of violations.
For emergencies, schools will be equipped with landline telephones that both teachers and students can use when required.
