Shimla/Chandigarh:
Himachal Pradesh’s authentic, family-run homestay model made a strong and confident pitch at the three-day India Travel Mart, with the Himachali Homestay Association emerging as one of the standout participants at the marquee travel trade meet.
Making its first consolidated presence at the national platform, the Association showcased a concept-based homestay model where local families host guests in their own homes—offering not just a stay, but a full cultural immersion.
From traditional Himachali cuisine and folk music to storytelling sessions, farming experiences, nature walks, trekking, yoga and local festivals, the model drew keen interest from tour operators and tourism stakeholders.
Homestays from all 12 districts of Himachal were represented, reflecting the state’s diverse cultures, cuisines and landscapes—from dense forests and snowbound mountains to rivers, waterfalls, cold deserts and indigenous architecture.
Delegates noted that the model aligns well with the growing demand for experiential, sustainable and responsible tourism.
The initiative earned praise from Rajasthan Tourism Board, Punjab Tourism and the Ministry of Tourism, which described Himachal’s homestay approach as replicable and globally relevant.
The Ministry also lauded the Association’s emphasis on women-led participation, calling it a strong example of inclusive tourism.
Buoyed by the response, the Ministry of Tourism has extended a special invitation to the Himachali Homestay Association to participate in SATTE 2026 in New Delhi, offering a wider national and international stage for Himachal’s authentic homestays.
Association president Tanuja Dhanta said the initiative is not just about tourism business, but about safeguarding Himachal’s culture, traditions, food habits, local dialects and promoting women’s empowerment through community-led tourism.
She reiterated the Association’s commitment to sustainable, responsible and eco-tourism.
The Association also acknowledged the continued support of tge Sukhu government stating that state backing has been crucial in giving Himachal’s authentic homestays a strong national presence.
With growing traction at national travel marts, the Association expressed hope that such platforms will help tourism benefits reach households across Himachal, while strengthening the state’s image as a leader in experiential mountain tourism.
