Negligent Driving Blamed
Shimla, Late Night Shock — A leisure tour to Nepal turned into a nightmare late last night when a tempo traveller carrying passengers from Recong Peo overturned near Kumarsain on the Recong Peo–Rampur–Shimla–Narkanda National Highway.
Out of 35 on board 29 passengers were injured, with 17 of them reported to be in serious condition, prompting an immediate emergency response.
After quick first-aid at the Community Health Centre, Kumarsain, the seriously injured were rushed to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) Shimla, where they remain under close observation.
According to police, the speeding traveller became a death trap when the driver, Rajkumar, allegedly lost control on a sharp stretch of the highway.
Calling it a clear case of negligent and rash driving, the police have booked the driver under relevant sections.
The impact was so severe that the vehicle flipped on its side, leaving passengers screaming for help in the dark.
One passenger had a miraculous escape, walking out unhurt even as the vehicle lay overturned on the road.
Police teams, locals, and medical personnel worked through the night to rescue the stranded passengers.
