Kullu/Shimla - As many as 50 people are reported missing the three sperate Flash floods in Malana and Ghanvi khad after cloud burst in Chandrkhani, Srikhand Mahadev ranges wee hours today.
The local administration has released the list of the missing people in different areas in the flood battered region. As many as 50 people are found missing out which over 18 are women and children. Three bodies have been recovered so far.
The missing include several members of three to four families including workers of the project from Rampur sub-division.
Out of the 50 persons who are feared missing in flash floods in the Kullu-Mandi and Rampur region, four are from Kullu district and three from Mandi and rest from Rampur sub-division.
There is a widespread panic among the family members and the relatives who are screaming for the missing members in the flood as HPSDMA and IMD failed to sound an alert of the cloud burst and flash floods evacuating them ahead of the imminent disasters, resented the the villages.
In Samej, a hydropower project building, where several workers were sleeping, has been swept away by the surging waters.
Rescue operations are currently underway to locate the missing individuals.
The Malana Power House and the road connecting Malana village have been completely washed away following a massive flash flood triggered by a cloudburst in the upper hills of Malana and Chandrakhani Pass.
The catastrophic flood in the Malana River has cut off all connectivity to the village, leaving it isolated and rescue operations extremely challenging.
The cloudburst caused a deluge that swept through the Malana Power House and the entire road stretch from Malana Barrage to the village, causing massive destruction.
Several workers at the powerhouse are feared to have been washed away.
Vehicles parked along the roadside and near the Malana barrage and powerhouse have also been carried away by the floodwaters.
in Kullu the Sabji Mandi building collapsed like a house of card.
Efforts to reach the village have been severely hindered by the damaged road.
Rescue teams are facing immense difficulties accessing the affected area, and the total loss and the number of people potentially washed away remain uncertain.
HPSDMA Response and Ongoing Efforts
NDRF and Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (HPSDMA) has deployed teams led by DC Shimla Anupam Kashyap and SP Shimla Sanjeev Gandhi to the affected areas in Rampur and Jhakhari to provide immediate assistance and support and tracing out the missing people.
However, challenging terrain and severe weather conditions are impeding rescue operations.
Residents are urged to avoid the affected areas and cooperate with rescue teams for their safety. The HPSDMA continues to provide updates and coordinate with local authorities to manage the situation effectively.
