SRINAGAR: Amidst the chills and thrills of snowfall, Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said he undertook Bharat Jodo Yatra neither for himself, nor for Congress. "This yatra was undertaken for people of India to open a 'Mohabbat' Ki Dukan' in a Market of Nafrat (Hatred) and Yatra has succeeded in doing so”, Gandhi said.
In an atmosphere of charged by snowflakes falling on his long beards due to a heavy spell of snowfall in Kashmir valley, Rahul Gandhi stood like a common Kashmiri draped in a Kashmiri Pheran and a cap cheering the crowds braving the cold in Srinagar.
Gandhi got applause from public, when he narrated and shared personal stories of his trials and tribulations on the conclusion of the 3650 Km long Yatra.
He said he understands violence, when he lost his grandmother, former Prime Minister of India Mrs. Indira Gandhi in 1984 when he was a 14-year old school boy.
Rahul Gandhi marked these words on the Martyrdom Day of Father of India, Mahatma Gandhi after announcing the conclusion of Kanyakumari to Kashmir 'Bharat Jodo Yatra'.
He said he suffered and faced violence again when he lost his father the then Prime Minister of India, Rajeev Gandhi. He got a phone call when he was in the US that his father was no more.
Rahul Gandhi said like Army, BSF CRPF people and people of Jammu and Kashmir and those who have suffered violence, can understand what violence means for families, but not BJP, RSS and Prime Minister and Home Minister Amit Shah”.
Gandhi said his ancestors migrated from Jammu and Kashmir long time back and carried along them “Kashmiriyat”. It was immersed in the Ganga-Yamuna Sangam at Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh, he added.
Gandhi said the fundamental foundation of Bharat based on basic tenets of love and unification and it is found in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Jammu and Kashmir.
He charged that it is this Vichardhara which is under attack from the BJP-RSS combine.
“Bharat Jodo Yatra aims to eradicate the vichardhara of violence and Nafrat(hatred) from the minds of BJP and RSS as well”, he said.
He said that when he was on the last leg of his 4- kilometre long yatra to Jammu and Kashmir he was alerted by his security men that there was a risk to his life and he could be attacked with hand grenade”.
Gandhi said he was not scared as he had no fear while marching back into the Kashmir valley, his homeland.
He said the kind of love and affection and outburst of emotions he got and received in yatra in the valley was overwhelming. Rahul Gandhi said it is snowing and no one in the crowd present is feeling cold.
He said this is warmth of love and affection he has been getting throughout his Yatra. This Vichardhara holds a way into the Future, he added.
Leaders from Congress including Party Chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Priyanka Gandhi, CM Himachal Pradesh Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu were present on the conclusion of the Yatra.
