SOLAN/SHIMLA: A major landslide that struck the Chandigarh-Kalka-Shimla Highway near Chakki Morh, just five kilometers from Parvanoo, early this morning was cleared by the NHAI at around 1 PM after 12 hours clearing the traffic tat was stranded there since morning.
The devastating landslide has brought down the green trees and debris, boulders and breached the highway bringing all traffic on the national highway to a standstill.
The Solan District police have issued a fresh advisory saying that Highway has been restored for small vehicles from Chakki Morh as the landslide was cleared by the NHAI today around 1 PM.
The farmers who were taking their fruit consignments to Parwanoo and Panchkula were forced to come back to Solan and Shimla so that the fruit does not rot.
According to the commuters, the damage to the highway was so massive that there is no trek left for even walking from one side to the other as the entire hill collapsed and breached the 100 m long stretch of the highway.
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), responsible for maintaining the highway, deployed machinery and cleared the debris, but the extent of the damage is huge only LMVs are allowed till the highway width is restored for heavy traffic.
The landslide caused the collapse of the entire hill from the upper side, severely damaging the highway infrastructure.
Fortunately, there were no reports of vehicles on the four-lane stretch at the time of the landslide.
