Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, during the inauguration of the newly-constructed Dhalli Bus Stand, took sharp jabs at the previous BJP-led government.
They accused the BJP of neglecting crucial infrastructure projects while claiming to run a “double-engine government.”
The bus stand, constructed at a cost of ₹13 crore, was completed with ₹5 crore sanctioned earlier and an additional ₹24 crore released by the current Congress government.
CM Sukhu remarked, “The BJP government, led by Jai Ram Thakur, failed to allocate adequate budgets, leaving key projects incomplete.
They misled the public with tall promises of a double-engine government. Our government is committed to completing these stalled projects swiftly.”
The CM emphasized a shift in budgeting practices under his administration, ensuring 40–50% allocation for ongoing works to avoid fund shortages. “We are delivering results at a faster pace, ensuring transparency and accountability,” he added.
Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri highlighted the strides being made in the transport sector, particularly with the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC).
“The HRTC, celebrating its golden jubilee, is undergoing a transformation. We are addressing critical issues such as fleet modernization, infrastructure upgrades, and financial stability for employees,” Agnihotri said.
He announced the procurement of 250 new diesel buses and plans to roll out 300 electric buses within the next 45 days. “We have allocated ₹110 crore for electric charging stations and workshops.
This will boost green mobility and modernize our transport infrastructure,” he noted.
Taking another dig at the BJP, Agnihotri highlighted the previous government’s failure to include essential vehicles in the HRTC fleet, forcing the Congress government to prioritize the transport sector’s development.
He also introduced new concepts, such as deploying tempo travelers and smaller capacity buses, to cater to hilly terrain.
The Dhalli Bus Stand, a key hub for Upper Shimla, is set to become a modern facility.
The Deputy CM assured the public that additional funds, beyond the current allocation, would be provided to further enhance the region’s infrastructure.
The Congress leadership took the opportunity to stress their commitment to fulfilling promises while holding the BJP accountable for alleged lapses during its tenure.
With transport modernization as a focal point, the Congress government aims to bring about visible changes in Himachal’s infrastructure and governance.
