Students Speak Up: Solving Dehradun's Traffic Crisis Students from Hopetown Girls’ School in Dehradun are taking a stand on the city's worsening traffic problems.
DEHRADUN: IN collaboration with the SDC Foundation, they’ve launched a public awareness campaign to tackle congestion and road safety, offering fresh perspectives and long-term solutions.
After conducting in-depth research, these students identified key issues, such as the lack of a well-developed public transport system.
"We see more private vehicles on the road every day, but hardly any efficient buses or transport options for the public," one student noted.
The students emphasized that improving public transport is crucial, proposing immediate steps like expanding the bus network and promoting eco-friendly alternatives such as cycling and walking.
In addition to short-term fixes, the students highlighted the long-term solution of Dehradun’s planned Metro Neo project.
"The Metro project can be a game-changer for our city, providing a sustainable alternative to private cars," said another student.
They believe that alongside improving buses and pedestrian infrastructure, the Metro project will help ease traffic congestion and reduce pollution over time.
Their report, which will be presented to local authorities, outlines these insights and solutions, demonstrating the proactive role of Dehradun’s youth in shaping their future and that of tge city.
