Local Enthusiasts to Embark on Himachal Extension of Askot to Aarakot Yatra

SHIMLA: In exciting  news  for trekking and nature enthusiasts, Aman Kant Panta, a PhD candidate from IIIT Hyderabad, has announced the Himachal extension of the historic Askot to Aarakot Yatra that connects Himachal and Uttarakhand to Nepal border.

This year, participants will have a chance to explore the scenic Pabbar River valley, starting from Chandarnahan Lake in Himachal Pradesh and joining the main yatra at Aarakot village in Uttarakhand.

The Askot to Aarakot Yatra, first initiated by young activists in Uttarakhand in 1974, is a decade-old tradition that traces a path from Askot on the Nepal border to Aarakot on the Pabbar River.

This year, Panta and his group will begin their trek from Rohru on July 1st, with the yatra officially starting from Chandarnahan Lake on July 3rd.

Over five days, the trekkers will journey along the Pabbar River, observing the changing landscapes and local communities.

This non-funded initiative requires each participant to cover their own expenses and involves staying with local families, making it a budget-friendly adventure.
