SHIMLA: The courts in Bilaspur and Chamba have handed down convictions in two separate cases involving sexual offenses under the POCSO Act, delivering justice for the victims.
In the first case, which dates back to September 29, 2019, a heinous crime was reported, leading to the registration of FIR No. 16/2019 under sections 376 B, 376 (2) IPC, and the POCSO Act at the Women Police Station in Bilaspur.
The accused, identified as Madan Lal, son of Shri Jagdish Chand, resident of Nagrawan, PO Rohal, Tehsil Jhandutta, District Bilaspur, was charged in connection with the incident. He was sentenced to 20 years in jail and imposed with a fine of Rs 50,000.
The second case, registered as FIR No. 297/2020 on September 21, 2020, under sections 342, 363, 366A, 376 IPC, and the POCSO Act at the Police Station, Sadar Chamba, has also resulted in a conviction.
The accused, identified as Sonu, son of Shri Mansa Ram, resident of Agahar, P/O Khundel, Tehsil & District Chamba, was brought to justice.
Following a thorough investigation, a charge sheet was filed before the Court of District Session Judge, Chamba. The legal process reached its conclusion on September 22, 2023, when the District Session Judge, Chamba, pronounced the accused guilty. Sonu has been sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment.
