SHIMLA/SOLAN: In a targeted operation, the State Tax and Excise Department has confiscated a staggering Rs. 2.17 crore worth of gold jewelry.
Acting on confidential information, teams from the Shimla and Solan districts set up checkpoints at strategic locations, successfully intercepting unauthorized transportation of valuable gold items.
The Shimla team nabbed jewelry worth Rs. 1.33 crore, while the Solan team seized assets valued at Rs. 84 lakh.
Taking swift action in accordance with the Goods and Services Tax Act (GST Act, 2017), the department imposed a substantial fine of Rs. 13 lakh.
The department, however, did not reveal the names of the persons or jewelers involved in the cases.
Not only this, the Excise Department cracked down on illegal liquor activities across several districts within the state.
They disposed of 200 liters of illicit liquor and confiscated 23 boxes containing both English and country liquor.
Notably, in Mandi district, the Excise Department teams intercepted and eliminated 200 liters of 'Lahan' under the Excise Act. In Una district, they confiscated 8 boxes of unlawfully kept English and country liquor.
In a series of similar operations, the Kullu district teams impounded 15 boxes of English and country liquor in three separate cases, along with a fine collection of Rs. 60,000 under the Excise Act.
The Shimla district team also made strides, seizing 25 bottles of illegal liquor during their raids.
