MANDI/SHIMLA: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi is set to host the G20-S20 meeting from June 21st to June 30th, 2023. The event aims to bring together prominent academics, celebrities, and leaders from India and Harvard Medical  school and many more.

This meeting will transform Himachal into a Global Hub on International Yoga Day.

The lush green  campus of IIT provides a surreal locale for the Guests from across the globe to experience yoga in green surroundings with the trout-rich Uhal river gurgling its track downstream.  

The primary objective is to facilitate collaboration and generate actionable insights towards achieving inclusive and sustainable development.

Distinguished dignitaries and delegates from around the world are expected to attend the event, which will serve as a platform for sharing innovative ideas, best practices, and addressing pressing challenges related to the themes of the meeting.

The Director of IIT Mandi, Prof Laxmidhar Behera, emphasized the institute's commitment to developing skilled manpower in areas such as sustainable development, climate-controlled agriculture, artificial intelligence, robotics, and many more.

Behera said institute is also dedicated to national missions like the "Make in India" initiative, fulfilling Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's vision of positioning India as the "Skill Capital of the world."

Notable speakers Include HP Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla  and Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Depty CM Mukesh Agnihotri.

Other notable speakers sharing their insights include Prof. Ashutosh Sharma, Co-Chair of S20 and former DST secretary; Padma Shri Satish Kumar, Chairman of ARB.

Padma Shri Hema Malini; Prof. K K Pant, Director of IIT Roorkee; Prof. Manoj S Gaur from IIT Jammu; Dr. Sat Bir Singh Khalsa from Harvard Medical School, USA; Prof. Baldev Setia, Director of PEC Chandigarh

 Padma Shri Dr. Mrs. Janak Palta McGillian, Founder & Director of the Centre for Sustainable Development; Dr. Kingshuk Banerjee, Director of Hitachi India; and Dr. Vikas Kumar, Chairman of AR & DB.

The G20-S20 meeting will commence on June 21st, coinciding with International Yoga Day.

On this day, IIT Mandi researchers will showcase various technology-enabled yoga and meditation practices aimed at promoting holistic health.  The visitors will experience innovative products such as posture-correcting yoga mats, AR-VR-enabled immersive meditation, and many more.

The G20-S20 Summit will span several days, with each day dedicated to a specific theme.

These themes include International Yoga Day, Holistic Health, Skill India, Technology for Defence, Technology for Society, and Renewable Energy.

Each day will feature engaging activities such as keynote addresses, interactive panel discussions, hands-on workshops, and networking sessions centered around the respective theme.

As the President-nation for the G20, India plans to showcase its philosophies of unity and environmental sustainability through the event's theme and logo.

This summit marks the culmination of a series of meetings throughout the year, with India hosting the 18th G20 Heads of State and Government Summit in December 2023 in New Delhi.
