SHIMLA: Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh has secured the top position in the District Good Governance Index (HPDGGI) Annual Report for 2022, earning a prize of Rs. 50 lakh.
Following closely, Hamirpur district claimed the second spot, receiving Rs. 35 lakh, while Lahaul-Spiti district secured the third position with a prize of Rs. 25 lakh.
The report, released by Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, evaluates critical governance indicators and measures the performance of districts in various sectors. It covers eight themes, including essential infrastructure, human development, social protection, law and order, and economic performance. These themes encompass 19 focus subjects and 90 specific indicators.
Himachal Pradesh stands out as the first state in India to systematically assess the quality of governance at the district level. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of good governance for the welfare of the people and highlighted the need to adapt the development model to meet future challenges.
The DGGI-2022 report was prepared by the Department of Economics and Statistics, Himachal Pradesh, using secondary data from 12 districts. This comprehensive evaluation aims to identify areas of strength and weakness for immediate improvement, fostering inclusive and equitable development.
Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena mentioned that this year's evaluation parameters were adjusted to ensure a level playing field for tribal districts. The event was attended by several officials, including the Deputy Commissioners of the winning districts and various dignitaries from the state government.
