Shimla: In a bid to tackle the menace of drug abuse among the youth, Education Minister Rohit Thakur announced the government's initiative to increase sports hostels in the state.
Thakur inaugurated the 2nd Late Parmanand Panatu Memorial Volleyball Competition, praising the local youth for keeping the sport alive in the region known for volleyball since ancient times.
Thakur emphasized the role of sports activities in steering the youth away from drugs while promoting holistic development. Currently, the state has 9 sports hostels, and efforts are underway to augment their numbers.
Addressing the infrastructure challenges, Thakur highlighted the losses incurred due to disasters and pledged efforts to improve road networks.
He revealed a successful transportation of about 2 crore apple boxes during the season.
The Education Minister assured phased action on community building demands, releasing Rs 10 lakh for Dhadi's facility.
Additionally, a commendable incentive of Rs 50 K was announced for the youth group organizing sports events.
Various local dignitaries Mandal President Motilal Derta and Zilla Parishad member Kaushal Mungata, were present at the event.
