Shimla- Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally reached out to Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to discuss the extensive damages inflicted by heavy rains and floods in Himachal Pradesh. CM has sought liberal economic package to rebuild the damaged logistics and extra NDRF teams for rescue operation in the state.
The Prime Minister expressed his deep concern and pledged complete support from the central government to help the state overcome this crisis.
Himachal has suffered massive damages worth Rs 4000 crore to property including roads, bridges, families, water and electricity, power projects, schools and other infrastructure.
During the phone conversation, Chief Minister Sukhu apprised Prime Minister Modi of the severe impact the floods and relentless rainfall had on the region. The calamity has caused immense damage, including loss of life, destruction of property, and disruption of vital services such as roads, water supply, and electricity.
With at least 17 lives lost and property worth billions of rupees washed away, the torrential rains have wreaked havoc on Himachal Pradesh, leaving many residents stranded and in dire need of assistance.
Chief Minister Sukhu assured the Prime Minister that the state government is actively involved in monitoring the situation and providing aid to the affected individuals. Efforts are underway to provide essential supplies to those stranded, with plans to airlift them once weather conditions improve.
The Chief Minister expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for swiftly dispatching the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to aid in rescue operations.
However, considering the magnitude of the disaster, he appealed to the Prime Minister to extend a special economic package to facilitate the state's recovery process.
Responding to the Chief Minister's concerns, Prime Minister Modi assured him of the unwavering support of the Union Government. He pledged to provide all necessary assistance to help Himachal Pradesh overcome this crisis and rebuild. The Prime Minister's reassurance comes as a ray of hope for the state, as it grapples with the extensive losses caused by this natural calamity.
Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President Jagat Prakash Nadda also reached out to Chief Minister Sukhu to assess the situation on the ground and gather information about the ongoing relief and rescue operations in the state.
In light of the long recovery process anticipated, the Chief Minister emphasized the urgent need for the Union Government to declare the situation a National calamity.
Such a declaration would enable Himachal Pradesh to access additional resources and support necessary to expedite the recovery and rebuilding efforts.
