Shimla, 11th September 2024 – A team from the New Development Bank (NDB), Shanghai, met with Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri to discuss funding for the much-anticipated Shimla Ropeway Project.
The three-member delegation, led by Tony Nkuna along with Charmaine Kazamula and Garvit Sah, held talks on the next steps toward securing financial backing.
Mukesh Agnihotri assured the NDB team that the state government would swiftly complete all formalities, allowing the bank to move forward with loan negotiations through the Department of Economic Affairs.
“This ropeway will be a game-changer for Shimla. It’ll not only cut down traffic but also help reduce our carbon footprint. It’s a step towards making Himachal greener and cleaner,” said the Deputy CM.
The ropeway, set to have 13 stations spanning 13.80 km, is expected to cost ₹1,734.70 crore.
The NDB team is scheduled to visit the proposed stations after discussions with experts from the Ropeways and Rapid Transport System Development Corporation (RTDC), including Director Er. Ajay Sharma.
Agnihotri emphasized the importance of this project, adding, "This ropeway will provide a faster mode of transport for everyone, easing the load on Shimla’s roads."
