Dharamshala: In a reply to the Opposition’s charges during a Vidhan Sabha session here Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu emphasized the importance of accountability and transparency in governance.
Highlighting his government’s commitment to systemic change, he stated, “If we think we’ve come to this chair permanently, then that’s a wrong notion.
It’s crucial to understand the responsibilities of this position and its accountability to the public.”
The CM took a dig at the previous government, accusing it of failing to establish accountability and indulging in political gains at the cost of public interest.
He pointed to the reduction in net non-performing assets (NPA) of cooperative banks, stating that under the One-Time Settlement (OTS) policy, NPAs dropped from 15.31% in March 2022 to 7.15% in March 2024.
“This policy benefited 7,200 individuals and brought ₹207 crore to the government,” he noted.
Clearing the Air on Corruption Allegations
Responding to allegations of corruption related to power projects, Sukhu detailed the state’s legal battles to safeguard public assets.
He explained how the government secured a conditional stay from the High Court and deposited ₹64 crore along with interest to prevent the attachment of state properties.
“The claim of corruption by the BJP is baseless. We acted in accordance with court procedures to protect Himachal’s assets,” he asserted.
He also highlighted a groundbreaking solar power project—Himachal Pradesh’s largest 39 MW ground-mounted solar project—calling it a milestone in the state’s green energy journey.
“For the first time in 75 years, such a significant project has been initiated to make Himachal a green state,” Sukhu said.
A Call for Zero Tolerance Towards Corruption
Underlining his government’s zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, CM Sukhu invited the Opposition to scrutinize policies and actions.
“Wherever there’s wrongdoing, bring it to our notice. But let me assure you, we won’t spare anyone guilty of corruption. They’ll be behind bars with foolproof evidence and chargesheets,” he declared.
Sukhu also emphasized the need to instill a sense of responsibility among the young generation.
“The changes we’re bringing through systemic reforms will set a precedent for future leaders, ensuring they understand their responsibilities and accountability,” he remarked.
Achievements in Public Governance
Listing his government’s achievements, the CM highlighted significant cost-efficiency in solar power projects compared to other states and the proactive efforts in curbing corruption.
“We have demonstrated that governance can be transparent and effective while serving the people’s interests. This is a new chapter in Himachal’s history,” he concluded.
