Villagers Evacuated to Safer Grounds Amid Rising Chandrabaga River Levels
KEYLONG: : In a swift response to rising water levels, villagers from Tandang have been evacuated to safer higher village of Junda with their belongings.
This urgent evacuation follows the increasing spate of the Chandrabaga River.
The incidents of cloudbursts and widespread rains in Mayyar, Tindi, Darcha, Jahalma and other places have sent local streams and rivulets in spate.
According to SP Lahaul-Spiti, "No loss of life and property has been reported so far. The safety of the villagers is our top priority, and we are ensuring that everyone is moved to secure locations."
The Border Roads Organization (BRO) has also opened the blocked stretch of the Zing Zing Bar beyond Darcha for one-way traffic.
This has enabled movement from Sarchu and Leh towards Keylong, as well as from Darcha towards Baralacha, Sarchu, and Leh.
The road was cleared around noon today, easing the travel woes of many.
Simultaneously, the BRO is working on a war footing to clear blockages on the Udaipur-Tindi highway, ensuring smoother transit and safety for travelers.
The coordinated efforts of local authorities and the BRO are crucial in managing the current situation, preventing potential disasters, and maintaining the safety of the residents and travelers in the region.
The public have been advised not to undertake unnecessary journey till weather normalize.
