LEH, JULY 10: Marking the anniversary of one of the most decisive operations of the Kargil War, the Indian Army on Friday paid tribute to the brave soldiers of 5 PARA who captured the strategic enemy stronghold of Muntho Dhalo in the Batalik sector on July 10, 1999, during Operation Vijay.

Remembering the battle with pride, the Army said the capture of Muntho Dhalo was a turning point in the Kargil conflict as it dismantled the enemy's principal headquarters and administrative base in the Batalik sector.

On July 10, 1999, 'B' Company of 5 PARA, led by Major Vineeth Seth, and 'D' Company under Major HS Jaggi, launched a daring assault and successfully secured the objective by mid-day despite fierce resistance from enemy forces.

The operation was backed by relentless and accurate artillery fire coordinated by Major Gurpreet Singh, Battery Commander of 15 Field Regiment. The combined firepower of 15 Field Regiment, 255 Field Regiment and 307 Medium Regiment played a crucial role in softening enemy positions, forcing Pakistani troops to abandon Muntho Dhalo while leaving behind large quantities of arms and ammunition.

The Army said the victory opened the strategically important Yaldor–Spring–Point 4100–Muntho Dhalo axis, significantly strengthening Indian operations in the Batalik sector and contributing to the eventual success of Operation Vijay.

As the nation observes the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas commemorations, the Indian Army remembered the courage, sacrifice and unwavering determination of the soldiers who fought to reclaim the nation's territory.

"India remembers with pride and gratitude," the Army said, saluting the valour of the warriors whose sacrifice continues to inspire generations and reaffirm the spirit of Nation First.
