Migrant Labourers

According to the police there are an estimated over  1,14,654 migrant labourers working in the State. Out of which 10332 are Nepalese, 27,637 belong to Bihar, 45,813 from Uttar Pradesh, 3,340 from J&K, 2,627 from Jharkhand and 25,265 belong to other states of India.

These migrant labourers are working in power projects, road construction works, apple orchards, and in industrial areas in the State.  The police is ensuring 100 per cent registration of the migrants in the state.

Apart from this,  with directions from HP DGP,  the police had also launched a special campaign from 1st August to 15 August, 2022 for identification and registration of street vendors working in the state.

The analysis of crime figures shows that some migrant labourer were found involved in the commission of heinous crimes in the past, said the police spokesperson. After commission of crime, they flee from the State and in the absence of their permanent address.

As a result, it becomes difficult for the police to trace them. In order to ensure 100% registration of migrant labourers and domestic servants, the DGP-HP has issued directions to the field formations.

This progress is being reviewed by the DGP on a daily basis.

During this campaign, 911 street vendors have been identified and registered in the Police Stations of State. The progress of registration of street venders is also being monitored by the DGP on daily basis.

It is being ensured that the details/particulars of all migrant labourers, domestic servants and street vendors from outside working in the State are registered with the Police.

The above steps are helpful the prevention/detection of crime committed by the migrant labourers etc. and will be immensely helpful in tracing the criminals, who flee from the state after committing crime, said police.
