The program aims to equip prison officers and jail superintendents from the state of Himachal Pradesh with an understanding of the upcoming criminal laws slated to take effect from July 1, 2024. Among the legislations to be discussed are the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita, 2023 (B.N.S.), Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (B.N.S.S.), and the Bhartiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 (B.S.A.).

The inaugural session witnessed the presence of Shri S.R. Ojha, I.P.S., Director General of Prisons and Correctional Service, Himachal Pradesh, who highlighted the transformative potential of the new Acts in revolutionizing the criminal justice system.

He emphasized the importance of training the trainers to disseminate knowledge effectively to the lower cadres of law enforcement agencies.

Prof (Dr.) Chanchal Kumar Singh, the Hon’ble Officiating Vice Chancellor and Patron of HPNLU, underscored the significance of the new criminal laws in replacing colonial-era legislations and safeguarding individual rights.

He emphasized the role of the training program in preparing enforcement officers for the implementation of these laws.

The program, organized by Dr. Santosh K. Sharma, Coordinator, along with Co-Coordinators Dr. Nutan Kanwar and Ms. Kalyani Acharya, is set to delve into various aspects of the new criminal laws over the course of three years.
