MANDI: IIT Mandi has launched the BioNEST-IIT Mandi Catalyst Centre, backed by a Rs. 5 crore grant from the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC).

This new center aims to drive innovation and entrepreneurship in biotechnology and healthcare, focusing on the unique challenges of the Himalayan region.

The BioNEST Centre will work on healthcare solutions like disease detection, affordable medical devices, and tissue engineering.

In biotechnology, it will explore new medical sciences, drug discovery, and bioactive compounds. With cutting-edge infrastructure and expertise from various fields, the center aims to create impactful research and development.

Strategically located in Himachal Pradesh, the center will benefit from the region's rich biodiversity and traditional medicinal knowledge.

It will provide crucial support to startups through funding, mentorship, and advanced facilities, fostering a dynamic ecosystem for innovation.

Dr. Satvasheel Ramesh Powar, Faculty-in-charge, highlighted the center's role in generating jobs and promoting sustainable development.

Launched in 2016, IIT Mandi Catalyst, the first incubator in Himachal Pradesh, has supported startups that have won 38 awards and created over 4000 jobs.

The new BioNEST Centre will further enhance this entrepreneurial ecosystem, addressing both regional and global healthcare challenges.
